I'm excited to announce a new course on specdriven development built in partnership with Jet Brains. As opposed to Vive coding, specdriven development is a disciplined agentic coding workflow. Start with a markdown file or a long prompt explaining exactly what to build and let your agent code based on that spec. Many of the best developers build this way. This course teaches you how to write highquality specs for developing in both new and existing code bases. I'm delighted our instructor for this course is Paul Everett who is developer advocate at Jet Brains and I see you joining us with your signature speckled tide. Thank you for having me Andrew and yeah that's right and in fact I have one just like it. We've all seen Vibe coding produce code that didn't work right or didn't match what we asked for. Spec driven development reduces that risk. Specs allow you to control large code changes with a few sentences. Preserve high quality context across many agent sessions and improve intent fidelity, allowing your agents to match your goals. In this course, you'll explore SDDD by building a fully featured web application called Agent Clinic, a place where AI agents can go to get help with their problems like hallucination and context rot. In the past, a developer's main job was writing code that will compile down to assembly. But nowadays, you spend most of your time writing a spec that compiles down to code. So the main challenge is translating the key trade-offs through an application into a clearer specification. The M can't do everything. You have the necessary context and this course to teach you how to write a spec with only the context the coding agent does not already know. AI agents can suffer from ailments like hallucination. But developers too can develop cognitive debt and fatigue from working with agents. You may have had this experience. your agent produces mountains of code and you can't easily keep up with it. Specs are one great way to reduce that cognitive debt by managing at the intent level rather than the code level. Work in small steps under control, staying on track, never getting overwhelmed. This course teaches you how to write specs at the right level of detail and use them in an iterative automatable workflow. Frankly, pretty much all the great engineers I know building complex software are writing detailed specs. So, this is an important best practice that you get a lot of value out of. So, that I hope you enroll and take this spec tech course.
